Wanting to spread the word that Danish underground holds worldclass acts, Wonders Make Joy started making these free compilations, and with the intention of spreading these compilations across the danish borders, this site was created.

The compilations feature both known and upcomming music, and with each compilation comes an english press release.

Korg Monotribe, MMA130 and Wavedrum Mini

Three new “gadgets” presented by Korg at Musikmesse 2011 in Frankfurt and especially the Korg Monotribe seems to be quite funny. Instrument or gadget?

Korg Monotribe

Analog Synth + Analog Rhythm + Step Sequencer = Analog Electribe
The monotribe Analog Ribbon Station – bringing responsive realtime control to analog groove-making.

Monotribe highlights:
The powerful sound of true analog synthesis
3-part analog drums, using discrete analog circuitry
Popular Electribe-style sequencing.
Active Step and Flux features for realtime dynamic loop manipulation
Advanced multi-function ribbon keyboard; Chromatic, Continuous, & Wide modes
Auto-tuning provides stable pitch for accurate chromatic playability
Selectable oscillator waveform, noise generator, and versatile LFO
Uses the same VCF (filter) circuit as the classic MS-10/MS-20
Sync In & Out jacks allows synchronized integration with multiple units
Battery operation, built-in speaker and compact size deliver on-the-go groove-making

In a world seemingly ruled by digital, Korg created an analog sensation with the palm-sized monotron Analogue Ribbon Synthesizer. Korg has once again raised the analog banner with the amazing monotribe Analog Ribbon Station; a new form of synthesizer that packs an amazing array of features and technology into its compact body. Korg’s monotribe shares the monotron’s analog DNA, yet quickly delves deeper into the rich, organic, and often chaotic world of analog synthesis. In addition to analog synthesis, monotribe brings together intuitive ease of use and a three-part discrete analog rhythm section, plus the proven appeal of Electribe-style sequencing. Complete with a built-in speaker and battery power, monotribe is self-contained and highly portable.

Monome Arc 4 – Holocene by Stretta

From the creators of the Monome comes Arc (actually not that new). This piece of hardware is beautiful and it seems to come in handy on some software instruments, but extremely expensive.
It comes in two versions, Arc 2 with 2 knobs and the Arc 4 with 4 knobs. We would like one for testing – now!

Arc 4

Musician/developer/designer Matthew Davidson (Stretta) put together this video, Holocene, that demonstrates the monome arc 4 in action, both as a musical tool and a gorgeous piece of craftsmanship. From Synthtopia.

Shruthi-1 by Mutable instruments

As most other electronic sound architects we suffer from G.A.S. (gear aqusition syndrome) and once more we’ve been deceived by another manufacturer of low price synths with a huge sound.
Mutable instuments presents Shruthi-1.

The Shruthi-1 is a hybrid digital/analog monosynth. Its hardware design is deceptively simple, but the sonic range is wide: sometimes grungily digital like a PPG-Wave, fat and funky like a SH-101, videogame-y like a Commodore 64, weird and warm like an ESQ-1 ; but more often than not, truly original.

HET modular synthesizer day

Ok, briefly, we are into synths, we love them! And modular synthesizers are awesome and addictive. We went to a modular synth get together hosted by High End Tentacles.

What should have been a short visit turned out to be 7 hours in modular heaven.
