Roland CR-8000 modded version – JAS#009

Ladies and gentlemen, we are back with our review series, JAS Review #009, this time we took one of our more rare drum machines – Roland CR-8000 modded by Gotharman. It’s pure evil!

This short review shows some of the capabilities within this fine piece of equipment. The Roland CR-8000 is a fine drum machine, no doubt about that, but with the modifications made by Gotharman it’s a completely new machine. Besides an evil filter there is a noise mod added to the clap (with attack possibility), tune on the kick and it’s possible to bypass all the modifications (plus some more additions that turns our Roland CR-8000 into one of a kind drum machine!).

Komakino – Doomsday Tuesdays EP

From Denmark we bring you Komakino, trip hop style music wrapped in a nice production. Throughout the last year Komakino has been working on Doomsday Tuesdays. The EP is done and it’s available for free download at his Bandcamp website.

Komakino is the brain child of Kenneth Bøje-Hansen. It’s a musical entity that offers a blend of noir soundscapes and imaginative beats.
Sometimes with eerie vocals and dark lyrics on top. Don’t get me wrong kids, the music is dark, but there is a light.

A stroboscope animation of the post-modern fragmented reality. All in all this constitutes a musical output that is best described as sci-fi hip hop with an intriguing noir glow to it……

VCMG – SPOCK

Behind those initials – VCMG – are two of the best electronic pop composers – Vincent Clarke and Martin Gore. They’ve been talking about doing a collaboration album together, and now we got the first single from their upcoming project called Spock.
Spock is just a teaser, next year they are said to release a full-length album.

Well, one thing is for sure, this is not Depeche modeish at all, they’ve blended techno elements from the last 25 years into somewhat hipster trance(?).

VCMG – Spock [Pitchfork Exclusive] by Mute UK

After 30 years working on their respective ongoing music projects, Vince Clarke (Erasure / Yazoo / Depeche Mode) and Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode) come together for the first time since 1981 as VCMG to release a brand new album on Mute, preceded by a series of EPs.

VCMG is the fruit of initially tentative discussion and subsequent enthused collaboration where Vince and Martin, both influential as pioneers in electronic music, get to exercise their lifelong love of the genre as the techno inspired VCMG.
