Roland CR-8000 modded version – JAS#009

Ladies and gentlemen, we are back with our review series, JAS Review #009, this time we took one of our more rare drum machines – Roland CR-8000 modded by Gotharman. It’s pure evil!

This short review shows some of the capabilities within this fine piece of equipment. The Roland CR-8000 is a fine drum machine, no doubt about that, but with the modifications made by Gotharman it’s a completely new machine. Besides an evil filter there is a noise mod added to the clap (with attack possibility), tune on the kick and it’s possible to bypass all the modifications (plus some more additions that turns our Roland CR-8000 into one of a kind drum machine!).

Dave Grohl – Exclusive Studio Tour video

From the NME video archive we found this cool footage with Dave Grohl showing his home studio.

Godlike Genius Dave Grohl invites us into his home studio to see where he produced the latest Foo Fighters album. Find out how weird tea and chicken noodles keep him going, and how he gets a Toys R Us drumkit to sound like Led Zeppelin.

Ran Kirlian – Threniar Vish

A nice little ambient improvisation done by Ran Kirlian.  Visit his website for free music and more information.

Ambient improvisation based over the Roland Juno 60 drone. The other instruments are the Access Virus Indigo and the Indigo 2 Redback. All audio is processed thru a TC Electronics M-One with some reverb.

Roland TR-505 – jas_justareview010

Recently bought this little machine for an outdoor project (it runs on batteries).
It’s plastic and very limited, but I like it and especially if you add some wah, distortion and delay. This video was made only to give you a glimpse of the Roland TR-505 in action and to give you some sort of impression on how it sounds. This is the pure sound of a Roland TR-505 (nothing added).

Live sequencing – Roland TR-505
Recorded using Lexicon Alpha
Camera1 – Canon IXY
Camera2 – Nokia E71

Bonus:
The distorted/delay drums are made live with the TR-505:
